Travel Crib – 3 Myths Examined!
We’re going to look at the 3 most common myths most people have heard at one time or another about baby travel cribs. We’re looking at the authenticity of these myths in a neutral light, of course. Enough with the disclaimer, let’s solidify or debunk these myths!
1. Aren’t baby travel cribs very unstable?
It is true that due to being more lightweight than a traditional crib, there is some loss of stability. Because a baby travel crib needs to be portable, there are obviously some compromises. Not necessarily in quality, but, yes, in construction. “Very unstable” is an overstatement, and completely untrue for most cribs. Some of the higher quality cribs (like the Baby Bjorn model) have been tested to withstand the efforts of other kids to interrupt baby sleeping. The crib needs to stay standing, after all! Most of the cribs are very sturdy, so this myth is debunked!
2. Baby won’t go to sleep in it!
This has been a major complaint for a lot of people. When introducing a travel crib to baby, ensure it is first in familiar surroundings. As with any change, take it one step at a time. When you can get baby to sleep in it without hassle at home, you can pretty much take it anywhere. Just don’t expect to have a quiet night on the first night if you haven’t tested it out at home first!
Keeping that in mind, this is debunked. Babies will sleep like, well, babies, in a crib that they have grown accustomed to. Remember to introduce anything new slowly. Your baby’s sleep (or lack thereof!) has a big impact on your own sleep. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you!
3. Assembly is a nightmare and only makes trips worse!
This one is probably the worst one. I’m not sure what some pour souls have gone through to propagate such a claim… The assembly of most travel cribs is very streamlined, simple and practical. Some models, like the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light, have an accessible fold mechanism. With the Baby Bjorn, you can do it with one hand, meaning if baby is crying and being nursed with the other arm, there’s not going to be a problem setting this up and quieting baby down for a nice nap. Debunked!
These are the major three myths. There is a lot of misinformation out there, so do your own research. Read the reviews – this is very important. Reading genuine reviews will get you the information the retailer will not advertise, like the downsides of a particular product. Good luck in your search for a travel crib!
