Retirement Life – Why Do You Travel?

Baby boomers are no exception in wanting travel to be an important part of their retirement life. Baby boomers are not interested in being passive bystanders to life, but are looking to experience travel as a part of their new vision.
While travel is a universal retirement goal, there are a number of different reasons and objectives why retirees travel based on their personality type. Look at the descriptions below to discover your reasons for travel.
Physical people enjoy the adventure of travel. They enjoy the outdoors, which may include hunting, fishing and camping. The motorized camper and RV often replace camping in a tent, but these people may still love to hike, ski, and engage in water sports or other physical activities.
Intellectual people like the discovery and learning aspect of travel. They may like to visit museums, learn about the culture or history of a location or a people. They like to be mentally stimulated and may choose locations that allow them to learn more about a certain subject. People who are interested in geography, for example, may want to travel to the Grand Canyon. People with an interest in space, planets astronomy may visit the NASA facilities, observatories or renowned planetariums.
Creatives travel to see and be inspired by art. The type of experience will depend on their artistic preference. While traveling to New York to see a Broadway play is an option, participating in a theater group for a few days or longer may also appeal to people with an artistic bent.
One of the great joys of travel for many is to experience the food of a particular location. Not only wanting to eat the food, cooking schools are becoming a principal component of baby boomer travel, as they learn how to prepare foods from different regions of the world.
Social people want to connect to others in their travel. This often includes visiting family and friends. Many boomers are also interested in experiencing other cultures and meeting people from around the world. Feeling like they are part of a global community is important to some new retirees. A few baby boomers even want to live in foreign countries for a few months or permanently to get the full experience of a different culture.
While this has always been a function of retirement, many baby boomers are looking at travel as a way to make a difference. Being part of a living legacy and feeling their life has meaning is changing the way people approach travel. People are combining travel with volunteering as a way to get the most of their experience. Whether it’s helping to save the turtles on the eastern coast of the U.S. or building an orphanage in Africa, retirees are expanding their notion of travel.
Why do you want to travel in retirement? Is it for to be physical, expand you knowledge, learn something new, experience art or enjoy friends and family?
