Travelling with your baby can be a daunting challenge. You may be worried about rude strangers who comment when your baby cries, and whether or not your baby will be able to cope with a longer journey. Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it may seem. Some children actually enjoy travelling and find the journey soothing!

If you are taking a flight, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, try to be as rested as possible. If you are calm, it will be easier to prepare for any minor issues you might have to deal with.

Experts recommend breast or bottle-feeding during take-off and landing. The reason for this is that it will help with the annoying ear popping many people experience. The sucking and swallowing relieves the pressure that builds up during these stages of the flight.

As said, some children find flying quite soothing. A window seat can be handy to distract a slightly older baby, and it is recommended to bring some toys and treats along, just in case.

If needed, you may be able to walk up and down the aisle to help your baby fall asleep. Other passengers are unlikely to mind this – people tend to be quite understanding and most people love children, and will be sympathetic.

If you are uncertain if it is safe for your baby to fly, please check with your doctor beforehand. It is recommended to wait until your child is at least two to three months old. This will give him time to develop his immune system and for the both of you to settle into a breast or bottle feeding routine. In case of emergencies, younger children may be able to fly, provided they have a clean bill of health.

Come prepared – pack a small bag with a diaper, a few wipes and a perfumed nappy sack. You’ll be able to place this in the seat pocket in front of you. Some planes have a larger bathroom available in the back of the plane. It is recommended to ask an assistant where they would prefer for you to make the change – it is likely that you will receive help, which is very handy when managing a little one on a flight!

If allowed through security, bring your own baby food. Most airlines will be able to offer baby food, but you know best what your baby likes.

Make sure your airline provides a baby lap belt to attach to your own. This will help keep your baby safe during the flight.

If there are rude people aboard, ignore them. You know your baby best, so don’t panic. It’s only a few hours out of their lives, and they will get over it. In the meanwhile, you can look forward to a pleasant time on holiday upon arrival. And you may just find that your baby will happily sleep throughout the journey!

Every year thousands of babies get hurt in accidents related to strollers. When new parents choose a stroller to buy they consider nice look and modern appearance of the stroller among other things. They often overlook a very important consideration – safety.

Last month I met my neighbor Jody, and she told me a terrible story of what happened with her little 6 month old baby boy. The end of story was good, but they had a very hard time before doctors said that their baby was going to be fine. What happened is that their brand new, stylish, easy to maneuver and handle lightweight travel stroller just got overturned by their 3 years old daughter. She was just trying to help… The baby was rushed to the Emergency Room, and luckily ended up with just two stitches.

A nurse told to Jody that the most important thing about any strollers is its safety, stability in particular. She gave Jody a good advice on baby safety topics. This is what we think is important with regard to different types of strollers: from umbrella strollers, travel strollers, jogging strollers, prams etc.:

- Stroller should be safe. Always choose a carriage or stroller that has wide and stable base to prevent tipping.
- Always choose five point harnesses rather then three.
- Make sure that back recliner has lock that keeps its position in place to prevent baby falling backwards.
- Buy preferably strollers with dual lock brake system.
- Check for JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacture Association) Certification Seal on www.jpma.org.
- Make sure it is easily, quickly open and close.
- Check if stroller is roomy enough to accommodate your growing infant.
- Be sure that stroller has durable wheels. Small swiveling wheels make easier to maneuver and good choice for walking on sidewalk. Larger wheels are easier to push over suburban sidewalk or forest path.
- Stroller cover should be hypoallergenic and from safe fabric.
- If you are looking for infant stroller, make sure it has 3 position tilt. Recommended that baby up to 6 month old lie on fully recline position.
- Make sure stroller handle bar is comfortable and adjustable. It is important to have reversible handle bar to help parents make easy eye contact with baby.

Finally, never leave your child in a stroller unattended, even for a second. If you let your older kids to help to push the stroller – always be around and supervise them.

For any new parents the first few months after the arrival of the new addition to their family is going to be a challenge. Not only are they looking to make sure that their baby’s life is happy but also safe especially when bathing, changing and taking them out. When it comes to baby bath safety there are certain things that new parents need to do.

In this article we offer some guidelines to ensure that not only is the new parent’s baby’s bath time safe but also enjoyable.

Tip 1 – If you are intending to use your own bath for washing your baby in then it is a good idea to put a slip proof mat or even some towels into the bath on which your baby can be placed. But if you can afford to there are baby bath chairs that can be purchased which allow the baby to sit comfortably in the bath whilst being washed.

Tip 2 – To ensure that the temperature of the water is right for your baby not too hot or too cold there are several things as new parents that you can do. You can either test the temperature of the water using the traditional method of dipping your elbow or wrist into the water as your mother would have done. The other way is to purchase a special thermometer which changes colour when the water temperature is correct. These thermometers will turn red if water is too hot, blue if it is cold and green if the temperature is just right.

Tip 3 – When giving your baby a bath make sure that you only use products suited to them instead of the kinds you would use on yourself. Also when it comes to washing their hair it is a good idea to place a flannel over their eyes in order to prevent shampoo from getting in them.

By: Kendra Dumont

Any person who has ever been out shopping for baby shower gifts or baby travel accessories will have discovered that there are a multitude of products on the market that carry the Graco Baby brand name. Graco Inc. has a long history in the baby product market and they have developed a very good reputation for making products that are not only of high quality, but also affordable.

The Graco line of baby car seats, as well as the Graco strollers, are probably the best known and most popular of all their products. Because safety is of such great concern when it comes to anything related to babies, and especially when it comes to car seats and baby strollers, it is comforting for parents to know that Graco products are highly rated, with regard to safety standards and overall quality and durability.

There is a great selection of Graco baby vehicle seat models that a new parent can select from. Some models are very lightweight and easy to move from one vehicle to another and are great for use with toddlers. These can often even be used later as a booster seat when the toddler has outgrown the baby seat, yet isn’t big enough to ride without some type of car seat.

There are also several baby car seat models made by Graco that are designed especially for newborns and infants. They provide the maximum amount of support and comfort to the baby while also offering all the safety and security for the child that a parent could ever hope for. Some models have adjustments that allow the car seat to be used as the child grows into the toddler stage. Of course, the more adjustable and adaptable the model is the more you can expect to pay for it.

While some people think that they might as well buy a baby car seat that can be used from the time a child is newborn all the way though the toddler stage and even beyond, for many new parents the cost is just prohibitive to do that. Fortunately, Graco provides lots of options to parents so that they can find just the right thing that fits into their budget.

Sometimes, it just makes sense to purchase the lower priced item even when you know in six months to a year you will have to buy something else to accommodate the child as they continue to grow. While this often is the least expensive approach, sometimes it is the only way to fit the necessary baby travel gear into the budget at that stage. With all of the models of Graco strollers, baby car seats, and other baby products, the parents always have a choice no matter what stage of development their child is in and what type of baby travel accessories they need at the time.

One very popular Graco baby product is the Graco Duo Glider baby stroller. It is able to handle either twins, or a newborn and a sibling who is still in diapers.

This Graco stroller has a large storage bin for carrying the necessities that are needed, and it has a tray for each seat as well as cup holder. In addition, the rear seat is slightly higher, giving the child in the back a view of where the family is headed.

By: Mike Selvon
