Baby’s love movement, therefore when it comes to choosing travel systems for babies, it’s important to choose prams and strollers that will ensure baby is comfortable and relaxed while traveling. You can select travel systems for the youngest newborn and infant to the more active toddler. Today’s strollers offer a wide variety of choices and it’s best to carefully decide which system is best for your family’s needs before baby arrives. Travel systems are one of the most important pieces of nursery equipment that you will own, so choose your system carefully.

Travel systems allow caregivers to have plenty of versatility when traveling with their child. Your child can go effortlessly from his or her infant carrier or car seat to the stroller with a simple click of a button, snapping the carrier into place. This provides tremendous benefits to parents and caregivers who have been driving with the baby sleeping comfortably. By using the travel system, you don’t have to worry about waking the baby up and can move the baby to the stroller without disturbing his or her sleep.

There are several features you should look at and take into consideration when choosing travel systems. First, you must ensure that you can easily carry or transport the system. Looking for models that are sturdy and durable yet lightweight will often ensure that you can move the system without much difficulty. It’s also important to make sure that you can easily fold the system and store it in your vehicle.

You might also want to consider selecting a system that will accommodate your child from the infant to toddler years. These systems are practical and provide many benefits as well as being convenient. Looking for systems that have adjustable positions will also ensure that as your child grows, he or she will be comfortable in a variety of seating positions in the system. Travel systems also come equipped with numerous different features, as well as features that you can purchase separately. Check with the manufacturer’s full line of products, as there may be more pieces that you might be interested in as well.

Consider the travel systems that you choose as an investment in your child. Your system can last for many years, bringing your child plenty of enjoyment. However, it is imperative to remember that the first issue of concern is your baby’s safety. You must take the time to check out the travel system and ensure that it is safe. One feature that you should look at is whether or not the system is sturdy enough to remain upright if you place a diaper bag over the handles. The system might have a storage compartment underneath for bags as well. It’s also a good idea to check the height of the stroller’s handles. If the handles are too low the caregiver might find that their back becomes strained while pushing their child. Many travel systems come with adjustable handlebars to ensure that you have the correct height at all times. If you think this will be an issue, then consider choosing a system with adjustable handlebars.

It’s important to choose a car seat designed for your child’s age and weight to give him or her the best chance of escaping injury in a crash. There are three main types of car seats — infant car seats, infant/toddler convertible car seats, and booster seats. Below are the facts about car seat options and some tips for making educated purchasing decisions for each car-seat type:

If your baby is less than a year old, he or she must ride in a rear-facing car seat.

One choice is to buy a rear-facing infant car seat (suitable for babies up to 20lbs), that will fit your baby snugly during the first few months and often comes with a handle for easy carrying. And, if you’re looking for the utmost in convenience, select a travel system. Infant travel systems include a ready made car seat and stroller combination.

The downside to the infant car seat is that you’ll spend $60 to $150 on the seat and your child will outgrow it in 6 months to a year. You’ll have to upgrade to a convertible car seat once your baby reaches 20 lbs. If this is a concern for you, you can buy a convertible car seat that will face the rear for your newborn and can turn around to face the front for your baby once he or she reaches 20 lbs.

However, some parents feel that their newborn is “swimming” in a convertible car seat and prefer to use an infant car seat until their baby gets big enough to sit in a front-facing car seat.

No matter what you decide to use for your infant, you’ll eventually need a convertible car seat.

Regardless of the choice you make as to whether to use a convertible car seat from day one or use an infant car seat until your baby weighs 20 lbs, you’ll need to buy a convertible car seat at some point. Convertible car seats are larger than infant-only car seats and are designed to grow with your child through the toddler years. Most convertible car seats fit babies up to 40 lbs (usually around age 4) and some convert to a booster car seat and are safe for children up to 80 lbs.

Convertible car seats range in price from $80 to $300.

For toddlers weighing more than 40 lbs and big kids, you’ll need a booster car seat.

Booster car seats are designed for children age 3 or older who weigh at least 40 lbs. They are designed to use your car’s lap and shoulder seat belts. They literally boost your child into a position that makes it safe to use the car’s seat belt system.

Booster car seats are essential to your child’s safety because using your car’s seat belts on a child without a booster seat can actually cause injury. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that children who’ve outgrown their convertible car seats use a booster car seat until they are 8 years old and 4 feet 9 inches tall.

Some booster seats provide back support and you should choose one of these options if your vehicle seat is low or has no head restraint. A backless option is fine for vehicle seats that offer plenty of support behind the head.

Booster car seats range in price from $60 to $200.

By: Bob Russell

The secret behind successfully travelling with a baby is to plan your journey with care. To be honest babies are very adaptable and resilient and can easily cope with travel as long as you feed them, change their diapers, pay them attention and don’t forget their baby toys and books.

Travel cribs are a brilliant invention, they are easy to set up and make your baby feel really at home and there’s a stroller available for nearly every terrain. Going by car is the best way to travel, you can carry everything you need and so once your baby is safely strapped into a car safety seat and all essentials are packed into the boot you can go wherever you want to go.

If you have chosen to use cloth diapers make sure you have sufficient supply, they aren’t as easy to get hold of as disposal diapers if you run short. Don’t forget to take a well equipped changing bag and plenty of changes of baby clothes.

Baby wipes are a must when you’re travelling. They’re a brilliant invention for when you are faced with a mucky baby with no water around. Keep a supply in the car all the time.

If you are bottle feeding don’t forget formula milk, bottles, teats and your sterilising kit.

A newborn will probably sleep for most of the journey but if you have an older baby make sure you take baby toys to keep your baby occupied while you are travelling. There are some well designed toys nowadays that you can stick to the back of the seat or the window of the car.

If you are travelling by bus, train or plane then make sure you plan with extra care. A backpack is quite good for all your essentials leaving your arms free for your baby which you could carry in a baby sling if need be. There are some really lightweight and easy to carry strollers nowadays specifically designed for confined spaces which are worth investing in if your use public transport on a regular basis.

Take care to keep your baby out of the sun. It’s well worth buying a good hat for when you are out and about and taking lots of sun cream. If it’s cold don’t forget your baby is likely to be a lot colder than you so will need a few more layers. It’s well worth checking that your baby is at a comfortable temperature at regular intervals throughout your journey.

By: Terry Ross

Any parent would only wish for the best for his or her baby. As such, one of their primary concerns is that the baby gets ample rest and is secure in its bedroom. In any case, getting a bassinet for your baby is certainly the right way to go. A bassinet provides a safe and durable place for your baby to rest, lessening the initial anxiety you may feel about caring for him or her and ensuring his or her safety.

The Benefits of Providing a Bassinet for Your Baby

A bassinet can be both functional yet stylish. Usually recommended for infants up to 4 months, these are also portable and can be carried around anywhere, which makes it useful for family vacations. With so many parents making an issue out of mobility nowadays, particularly those who still work full-time while managing a family at the same time, bassinets are helpful additions to the house. It looks good as a permanent fixture in your room, while at the same time easy to take along on journeys, thus lessening the need for you to request an extra crib for your baby to sleep in when you travel.

Bassinets are also usually partly covered, which serves as good protection for a sleeping baby especially if you are carrying it out on the streets. Babies are generally more susceptible to infections and sicknesses, and having a light physical shield to protect them from bacteria in the air in some sense lessens the risk of them catching an infection, albeit only to a partial extent.

Bassinets can also be quite flexible as they can be converted to actual prams and carriages, given that you have the wheels and the tools to add on to it. Therefore, when your baby grows, it is possible not to waste the bassinet as you can turn it into something more useful.

Familiarizing Yourself with the Types of Bassinets

In general, there are only two types of bassinets. There is the stationary bassinet, and there is also, as talked about, the portable bassinet. Also touted “Moses baskets” the stationary bassinet cannot be moved around as it is designed to have a more permanent fixture in your home. A portable bassinet, however, serves useful to those who are constantly traveling – these may be the more sturdy types of bassinets as they are specifically designed to withstand effects of the rain or the sun, or the current weather.
How to Know Which Type of Bassinet to Buy

This is pretty simple to identify, as all you need is to ask yourself these questions: Will I be traveling frequently? Will I always be bringing my baby with me as I travel? If your answers to both questions are yes, then you should certainly invest in a bassinet of your own – particularly a portable bassinet. Otherwise, you should be fine with a stationary one.

The “Cocoon” Feature: One of the Best Things About a Bassinet

The “cocoon” feature is one of the best things that a bassinet can offer to a baby. Bassinets are generally designed to provide that safe, comfortable, and secure feeling that will make the baby sleep better. In fact, most neo-natal units make use of bassinets to allow babies to sleep well.

This is something that normal cribs don’t offer, and as such, make bassinets a more attractive option. Bassinets also work better for rooms that have less space because they require less clutter to set up, and are daintier and lovelier to look at than most cribs.

What to Look for in a Good Bassinet

The same three universal standards apply when you start searching for a bassinet of your own: size, quality, and design.

Choose a good-sized bassinet that will fit comfortably in your room or the baby’s room. Do not be dazzled by larger sizes if you know that it will only end up making your room look quite cluttered.

As for quality, while portable bassinets are normally the sturdier kind, choose a bassinet that will last for years, especially if you are planning to have more kids after.

Design-wise, choose one that looks best in your room – this now depends on your personal preferences for the room and for the baby.

Never hesitate to pay premium for a good quality bassinet – this is an important thing to remember. Remember that this is now about the safety and security of your baby – of course you don’t want to risk those by buying a cheap yet low quality bassinet.

What to Do with Your Bassinet When the Baby Grows Up

There are several things that you can do with your bassinet when you feel that you no longer need it. You can sell it to someone else who happens to need it at that time, you can convert it to a pram and use it for your growing child, or you can keep it should you want more babies in the future.

In other words, a bassinet can be a very important part of your life as a mom. Getting one for your home means that you truly care about the safety and security of your baby. These are two things which you will not and should not compromise when it comes to child rearing. Make sure you do your research in advance before buying your choice of bassinet so that the investment you make will truly be worth it. Good luck, and happy bassinet shopping!

By: Erik Schimek

I am a grandpa and I know that babies cry. And why not! They can’t speak, they can’t tell you what they need, so if they want to communicate to you they cry!

Because we know that babies will cry, there is no way around it, but you can do some things to reduce the number of times that they do, and reduce the length of time.

Try to deal with your baby before they start crying. If you can do this then the odds are that they will cry less, and when they do it will be for a shorter period of time.

That’s all fine and dandy, but how do you deal with your baby before they start? The answer is a two part answer.

Learn why they cry Anticipate that the circumstances are such that when they will start and then eliminate or reduce the circumstances that will lead up to it.

So here it is, why do they cry, and what can you do to minimize it

Reason # 1. They have pooped or wet their pants and they need changing. To anticipate this problem check their diaper regularly. One of my daughters has a feel test, she puts a finger on to the diaper to feel if baby is wet. The same daughter also has a smell test. She picks up baby and takes a whiff of the area that is covered by the diaper. If the baby needs changing do it before the crying begins. Reason # 2. They want to be held. They want to be close to mom or dad. They want to hear familiar voices, feel familiar touches. Many babies have a routine, such as after being changed or after being fed they want to be held. Learn what their needs are and if they need to be held (after being changed for example) then pick them up. If you are not always able to pick baby up consider using a carrier such as a Heart to Heart sling or BabyTrekker carrier. That way your child can be held and you can still have your hands free. Reason # 3. Baby is hungry. Learn to watch for the signs that your baby is hungry. When you baby is hungry does he or she start to fuss, make noises, etc. If it is close to the time to feed baby do so before they start to cry. Another suggestion is to keep a journal where you can record the time of the day, the signs that the baby is making indicating that they are hungry, and what happened when the baby was fed. Reason # 4. Baby is either too cold or too hot. Most babies, especially newborns like to be bundled up and kept warm. Try to avoid situations where the baby will feel cold. If stepping outside make sure baby is well bundled. If changing the baby’s clothes make sure that you are all set with everything you need so that you can quickly make the change and get your baby wrapped back up again. Reason # 5. Baby has had too much excitement. If you are out visiting with family and friends and your baby’s routine is changed it may be difficult for the baby to take it all in. When you are out and about with your baby periodically take some time away from everything and everyone to have some calm and quiet time with just you and baby. Reason # 6. Baby doesn’t feel good. Eventually you will be able to distinguish the crying that happens when your baby is not feeling well versus the cry that means that baby is hungry or uncomfortable. When you baby is crying with that “I’m not feeling well cry”, make sure that there isn’t a piece of clothing that is causing the crying. If that isn’t the problem take their temperature. If their temperature is above normal or if the crying persists contact your doctor. Reason # 7. Mystery reason. There is no real reason why the baby is crying. It’s their normal fussiness crying. Here are some things that you can do to help to soothe baby. Wrap baby up and hold him or her close Put baby in a baby sling carrier and start moving. Quite often the motion of being carried will calm the baby Rock gently in a rocking chair Take baby for a car ride Take baby for a walk in their stroller Touch the baby with slow and gentle movements of your hands. This is especially useful when the baby’s back or belly is rubbed. Let the baby suck on their pacifier

By: Joseph Peterson

If you are a new parent or a soon to be parent there is no doubt that you have started to notice the massive variety of strollers available. They all have different looks, different uses and most noticeably, different price tags. It is enough to leave you wondering how to judge which is the best value.

The stroller that is the best value for you is one that will meet your needs and last until you no longer need it. Many parents have made the mistake of choosing the cheapest stroller thinking that it was the best value only to have to replace it several times. Many low end strollers are made of plastic or have plastic joints that can wear out, warp and twist in a surprisingly short time. It is best to invest a little bit of money up front in a higher quality stroller in order to save you the money of replacing it in a year.

You know you don’t want to buy two strollers because one breaks but do you want to buy two strollers for different activities? For some the answer is yes but for most of us it is not. If you are an avid runner and you are going to put in a lot of miles with your jogging stroller, you will need to invest in a high quality jogger that can stand up to the abuse. The stroller that is perfect for jogging is rarely perfect for anything else. Joggers are big and a non-swivel front wheel is necessary for jogging but very difficult to steer any other time.

If you are not an avid jogger you will probably want to find a stroller that you can take for a walk around the neighborhood, a trip to the park or a trip to the mall. There are so many strollers that will fit the bill for all of these activities as well as anything else you can think of. Bugaboo makes great strollers that are easy to push and will hold up through multiple children. The Stokke Xplory has a unique design that many parents and babies love. Orbit baby has created an easy to use and incredibly safe travel system for parents who spend a lot of time traveling.

One thing these strollers have in common is a hefty price tag and yet they are all good value. If you are planning on having more than one child any of these strollers will remain in good condition after years of use. You must also remember that each child will need the stroller for about three years and if you have to replace a cheap $200 stroller three times per child that can really add up fast. For value it is better to spend $500 or $600 once than to spend $200 over and over again and deal with the hassle of a low quality stroller.

By: Andrea Marchant

There is no fixed time for your baby to start teething, however on average the process tarts usually between the ages of week 20 and 6 months. The time at which you start to teeth is thought to be hereditary – so if dad and mum started to teeth early there is every change that you baby will. (Time to ask granny or granddad if they remember).

Teething symptoms?

Drooling or dribbling is usually the first sigh that the teeth are starting to grow. This process can start as early as ten weeks. Try to keep the skin around the month as dry as possible because the drooling can cause skin rash or chapping of the skin around the mouth area. If a rash or chipping does occur then apply a mild skin cream should help.

Biting is another symptom of teething. The child may start biting on anything they can get there months near – which can include there fingers. Chewing on hard objects can help relive the pressure. Child teething rings can help or maybe you could use a piece of carrot or use one of the many teething gels that are available.

Ear pulling or cheek rubbing are also systems of teething. This is because the pain can travel along the never paths that lead to the check area. This is especial common when the molars start to come through.

Keeping baby’s teeth clean

Cleaning you babies teeth at such an early stage may seem unnecessary – however starting them at this early age sets a good precedent for oral hygiene. Cleaning the baby’s teeth with your finger (wrapped in soft cloth). The baby will then progress to a soft baby tooth brush. Always use toothpaste especially for babies.

By: Alan Murray

The baby shower is an essential part of the celebration of a new born child, and it is always joyous to liven up the venue with a variety of baby shower decorations.

The available range is simply vast, and starts with those that you can put outdoors to announce the baby shower location to your guests.

The lawn sign – a great way of singling out the house or venue for the baby shower – as a great decoration, and these are available widely in a large number of different shapes and sizes, all tailored for the boy – in blue – or the girl, in pink of course! Put one in the lawn and nobody will have any trouble finding their ay to the baby shower.

Another great way of advertising the location is to place balloons outside – balloons can be bought especially for the baby shower, in either of the traditional colours and more – and another neat touch is to weight the balloons rather than tie them. Weights come in a wide variety of shapes and styles, and colours and designs, and add an original and innovative touch to any decorative set up.

On the subject of balloons, these can be bought not only in the colours and shapes of a traditional balloon, but also in shapes such as babies themselves, adding an extra interesting twist to the proceedings and an amusing talking point.

The use of banners is always a nice touch, and a large banner hung across the front of the house or venue is a good way of decorating a frontage. Banners can be found in many shapes and sizes, too, and in different fabrics and colours to add to the sense of occasion.

Of course, the new mother needs to be identified, too, and to this end should wear a specially bought sash, one available in numerous designs from a party supplier that immediately marks her out as the mother of the new baby.

The tables should be decorated too, and to this end a series of centrepiece decorations are available, with choices that look like children’s building blocks, or dolls or animals, and many more innovative and attractive designs that are intended to add a sense of fun and excitement to the baby shower.

For the cake – a vital part of any baby shower is a celebratory cake – there are any number of decorations and adornments that can be added to make the item look attractive and original, all geared to the boy or girl theme, and many as edible as the cake itself!

Streamers and banners, party suppliers will supply them either on the internet or the high street, also add to a sense of occasion for any baby shower, and the incorporation of games adds to the fun and jollity of the day. Indeed, the popular children’s party game – the Piñata – is also being embraced by adults, and can be a great way of adding to the baby shower decorations.

By: Tim Lee

Stylish baby carriers have become the latest fashion must-haves for new mom and dads. Celebrities like Brad and Gwen are using them to carry their babes around town.

There are dozens of manufacturers producing high fashion baby slings for today’s fashion conscious parents. Using a sling allows a parent to wear the baby – it is a new accessory.

The sale of baby carriers has grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years for a wide range of reasons.

Baby wearing is convenient for the parent, comfortable for both the baby and for the parent. It provides freedom for the parent since their hands are free to do other things and at the same time keep a close eye on their infant. They can be used when baby is a newborn all the way up to a toddler. The carrier slings make it easy to hold a baby, and we all know that the more babies are held the more content they are and the less they cry.

For moms that are breastfeeding their baby a sling carrier makes it easy to breastfeed anywhere with the confidence of knowing that the sling is providing mom and baby with privacy.

More and more celebrities are having children, and in our celebrity-centric world people watch what they do. And they are using baby slings to wear their baby. So when celebrities are doing it logically follows that the general public will follow suit.

And it’s not just mom anymore. More and more celebrity dads and the not-famous dads are getting in on the convenience and joy of carrying their child in a carrier.

By: Joseph Peterson

It seems that everyone has a different opinion when it comes to giving vitamins to your baby. This decision has to come down to you the parent. Some Dr’s will say that your baby doesn’t need vitamins, and others will say go ahead and give them a multi- vitamin, it depends on your doctor but for your babies safety you should definitely follow your Dr’s advice.

When your baby is first born, your baby is healthy and doesn’t need vitamins. Your baby is getting vitamins through breast milk or formula. It isn’t until your baby quits breastfeeding or drinking formula that you may want to consider giving a vitamin supplement to your baby.

Once baby starts on solids it is more difficult to know that baby is eating a healthy diet. Baby may one day eat really good and the next take a couple bites of something and spit out all her vegetables. If my baby is anything like any of yours, he will eat the favorite food of the week and most of the time it is not the most nutritious thing for him to eat. But if you mothers are like me you are just thankful that he is eating something, anything! So if your baby is a fussy eater and you are not sure weather or not he is eating a healthy balanced diet, then I suggest a liquid multi-vitamin specifically designed for infants. You can find these sort of vitamins at your local health food store.

Stay away from gummy vitamins until at least the age of 3 or 4 . There are some things that your baby isn’t allowed to have yet. Liquid infant multi-vitamins give dosage usually by weight which is good because then you know how much vitamins are safe for your baby. You never should give your baby adult vitamins as these contain a higher dosage of vitamins that is way to much for your babies body to handle. To much of anything can harm your body, with the exception of love.

Babies as well as adults do need some vitamins to stay healthy. Vitamin D for example. We get Vitamin D through the sun, so make sure your baby gets out at least 30 min a week. Of course in the winter time when there is frigid temperatures no one wants to go outside. That is why a vitamin supplement is so good. When looking for a vitamin supplement for your baby look at how much Vitamin D is in it. If the amount of Vitamin D exceeds 400 IU per day don’t buy it. To much Vitamin D can be toxic to your baby.

Babies and Toddlers also need Iron and Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a great preventative vitamin, it boosts the immune system and is good to give when baby has a cold. They have vitamin C liquid drops for infants as well. Vitamin C can help the absorption of Iron so it has that benefit as well. Your multi-vitamin will have Vitamin C in it already so until baby is sick there is no need for extra Vitamin C.

Iron is essential for babies up to 18 months. An Iron deficiency can cause developmental as well as behavioral problems in infants. Although in some babies to much iron can be constipating, it is essential for there growth. There is iron enriched cereals and formulas for younger babies and iron will most likely be in your multi-vitmamin. You should always read the labels to make sure.

With our food and soil not being enriched with the vitamins and minerals it once had, I am all for giving my child vitamins. I feel good knowing that my son is getting all the things he needs to grow and thrive. Always cheek with your child’s doctor before starting a vitamin regimen. I have noticed since I have started giving my son a multi- vitamin he hasn’t been sick.

By: Brooke Schuman
